Libyan Foreign Minister Defects To UK
Scimus autem quoniam diligentibus Deum omnia cooperantur in bonum, his, qui secundum propositum vocati sunt. (Romans 8:28)
France 24 reports UK officials have confirmed that Libyan Foreign Minister Moussa Koussa arrived in London late Wednesday following his defection from Muammar Gaddafi's government.
Britain's government said Moussa arrived from Tunisia at Farnborough Airport, about 35 miles (55 kilometers) southwest of London, the Foreign Office said in a statement, adding that he traveled there under his own free will.
Moussa Ibrahim, a Libyan government spokesman, denied that the Foreign Minister has defected saying he was in London on a "diplomatic mission".
Guma El-Gamaty, an organizer in Britain for a leading Libyan opposition group, said Moussa's action would be "a big hit" that would weaken Gaddafi.
El-Gamaty said he does not think Moussa is likely to remain in Britain but would likely end up in another country in an effort to avoid possible prosecution.
Earlier, British Foreign Secretary William Hague announced that five Libyan diplomats were being expelled from the country, according to BBC News.
Hague told MPs that the five, who include the military attache, "could pose a threat" to Britain's security.
"Quid ergo dicemus ad haec? Si Deus pro nobis, quis contra nos?", Romans 8:31.
