Swedish Pirate Party Offers Web Hosting For WikiLeaks
Praedica verbum, insta opportune, importune, argue, increpa, obsecra, in omni longanimitate et doctrina. (2 Timothy 4:2)
Web Host Industry Review reports WikiLeaks will continue its mission of exposing secrets of all kinds.
Sweden's Pirate Party has offered to host the site.
The Pirate Party’s main tenets include the protection of privacy, a halt to online censorship, doing away with medical patents, and legalizing file-sharing.
WikiLeaks has faced opposition from government officials since releasing close to 100 thousand military documents.
According to WHIR it is still unknown if WikiLeaks will accept this offer, since aligning itself with a political party could damage its reputation as a free and unbiased source of information.
In a press conference held in London, WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange said anger and outrage were the expected reaction to its activities from the groups being exposed.
Anna Troberg of the Swedish Pirate Party said: "It would not surprise me at all if Sweden is shortly subjected to American pressure to shut down WikiLeaks".
"The Pirate Party will under no circumstances give in to pressure", said Troberg.
Troberg continued: "We now help democracy activists in Iran, including communication via anonymous servers. We provide bandwidth to our greatest political opinion leaders, The Pirate Bay. If WikiLeaks is attacked again, we will immediately offer them both server space and bandwidth".
Troberg added: "The Pirate Party believes in democracy and we are not afraid to stand up for it".
The fight against censorship and the support of free speech is indeed very important.
Both WikiLeaks and the Pirate Party can certainly be criticized.
But it is good that there are people willing to stand up for free speech and democratic values and an internet free from governmental censorship.
