Swine Flu Cruise Ship Docks In France

Et erunt pestilentiae et fames et terraemotus per loca. (Matthew 24:7)

USA Today reports 60 crewmembers on a Royal Caribbean cruise ship have been diagnosed with swine flu and confined to their cabins while the ship is in a French port.

Another 70 ship employees are showing symptoms of the disease according to a spokeswoman.

The cruise ship docked at Villefranche-sur-Mer.

The Voyager of the Seas, operated by Royal Caribbean Cruises, had travelled from the Italian city of Naples as part of a Mediterranean tour.

Local officials allowed the ship's 3.600 passengers to visit the town before the boat leaves Friday night for Marseille.

I feel compassion for the passengers who longed for a love boat, but got the plague ship.

According to BBC News, officials said a 14-year-old girl infected with swine flu had become France's first fatality from the virus on Thursday.

Neighboring Belgium also reported its first swine flu death on Thursday when a 34-year-old woman passed away after developing "a double viral pneumonia".

Swine flu deaths have now been recorded in five European nations - Belgium, France, Hungary, Spain, and the UK, where 31 people have died.

"Et ecce equus pallidus et qui sedebat desuper nomen illi Mors, et inferus sequebatur eum, et data est illi potestas super quattuor partes terrae interficere gladio fame et morte et bestiis terrae", Revelation 6:8.

"a double viral pneumonia"

Very painful. Can't imagine being locked on a ship because of a spreading disease, even if its "just" influenza.

At least the media stopped the comedy with "underlying conditions". People seem to pass away only because of the flu alone.

Hi Julie,

How wonderful to hear from you!

I agree. It cannot be fun at all to be confined to the ship.

Thanks for commenting and have a great day! :-)
