U.S. Military Burns Bibles Sent To Afghanistan. Why?

Ipsius enim sumus factura, creati in Christo Iesu in operibus bonis, quae praeparavit Deus, ut in illis ambulemus. (Ephesians 2:10)

Military personnel threw away, and ultimately burned, confiscated Bibles that were printed in the two most common Afghan languages, Pashto and Dari, according to CNN.

The unsolicited Bibles sent by a Church in the United States were confiscated about a year ago at Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan because military rules forbid troops of any religion from proselytizing while deployed there, Lt. Col. Mark Wright said.

Such religious outreach can endanger American troops and civilians in the devoutly Muslim nation, Wright said.

Wright is basically correct.

But was not the idea behind sending troops to Afghanistan, to turn that nation into a better place by spreading Western values?

Of course U.S. troops should not act as missionaries, because that is not their role.

But why burn the Bibles?

There must be people in Afghanistan who want to hear the Gospel.

And the Gospel should not be withheld from those couragious people who want to know more about Christ.

Why not just store the Bibles in libraries, which provide Sacred books?

"Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen", see Matthew 28:19 - 20.

The situation came to light recently after al-Jazeera aired a video in which a reporter suggested U.S. troops were being encouraged to spread Christianity.

The military did not identify the Church that supplied the Bibles.

"For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places", see Ephesians 6:12.

"In patientia vestra possidebitis animas vestras", Luke 21:19.

Det kanske är tur att dom inte bränner Koranen. Vad skulle hända då?

Bra kommentar, Helena!

Ja, vad hade reaktionen blivit om de bränt Koranen istället?
