BBC reports the UN's World Health Organization has raised the alert over swine flu to level five - indicating human-to-human transmission in at least two countries.
"And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine", see Mark 5:13.
WHO says it is a "strong signal that a pandemic is imminent".
The Netherlands confirms its first case of swine flu.
And on Thursday the swine flu virus appeared in new locations as far apart as Peru and Switzerland.
According to The New York Times, Mexican President Felipe Calderón said in a nationally televised speech Wednesday night, that, as of Friday, many public services will be closed.
After an emergency WHO meeting in Geneva, Director General Margaret Chan said: "It really is the whole of humanity that is under threat in a pandemic".
Ms Chan stressed on Wednesday that there was no danger from eating properly cooked pork.
The search for the source of the outbreak continues, with the focus on the vicinity of a pig farm in the eastern part of Mexico.
In the US, President Barack Obama has urged local public-health bodies to be vigilant, and said schools with confirmed cases "should consider closing".
About 100 have so far done so.
President Obama said on Wednesday evening there are no current plans to close the border with Mexico.
In the short term, it seems likely that agricultural and food stocks will fall, followed by a rebound when people figure out that swine flu cannot be caught from eating pork.
On the other hand, the drop in airline and travel stocks, particularly among those companies that do a lot of business in Mexico, will probably last longer.
The swine flu outbreak will ultimately result in a spike in sales of vitamins, over-the-counter cold meds, hand sanitizers, and surgical masks.
Maybe the swine flu is an invention to prevent Americans and Europeans from gathering in large groups like "Tea Parties"?
